True Worshipers Will Worship the Father in Spirit and Truth
Speaker: Jim Claycomb Series: John Topic: Expository Scripture: John 4:7–26
LORD’S DAY WORSHIP
September 6, 2020 at 1:00 pm
Worship of the Triune God is our most important duty. John 4:23-24 says that God seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth. As you worship today, purpose to enter fully into the praise offered by singing, in joyful giving of tithes and offerings, in prayer, and in carefully listening to God speak through the reading and preaching of His Word. May our sovereign Lord receive glory as you actively worship Him.

Please use this time to set your hearts on Christ and pray for the Word, our worship, and that holiness and reverence will be known among us.
There’s a wideness in God’s mercy
Like the wideness of the sea;
There’s a kindness in His justice
Which is more than liberty
There is no place where earth’s sorrows
Are more felt than up in heaven;
There’s no place where earth’s failings
Have such kindly judgment given.
There is grace enough for thousands
Of new worlds as great as this;
There is room for fresh creations
In that upper home of bliss.
For the love of God is broader
Than the measures of man’s mind;
And the heart of the Eternal
Is most wonderfully kind.
Call to Worship* Psalms 96:7-10
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts! Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!
Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.”

Confession of Faith Westminster Confession of Faith (Ch. XXI-6)
Under the gospel neither prayer nor any other part of religious worship is tied to or made more acceptable by being performed in any particular place. God is to be worshiped everywhere in spirit and in truth; in private families daily; privately by individuals daily; and regularly in solemn public gatherings, which are not to be carelessly or willfully neglected or forsaken, since God calls us to join other believers in public worship.
Preparation for Confession of Sin Romans 8:12-13
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Assurance of Pardon Romans 8:14-15
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
