”My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my soul. Awake, harp and lyre; I will awaken the dawn! I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the peoples, and I will sing praises to You among the nations.”

Psalm 108:1-3

“Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart”

Spirit of God, descend upon my heart;

wean it from earth, through all its pulses move;

 stoop to my weakness, mighty as thou art,

and make me love thee as I ought to love.

 I ask no dream, no prophet ecstasies,

no sudden rending of the veil of clay,

 no angel visitant, no op’ning skies;

but take the dimness of my soul away.

 Teach me to love thee as the angels love,

one holy passion filling all my frame;

 the baptism of the heaven descended Dove,

my heart an altar, and the love the flame.

Call to Worship*                                                 Psalm 108:4-5

For Your lovingkindness is great above the heavens, and Your truth reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and Your glory above all the earth.

Confession of Faith                  Westminster Confession of Faith

XXIII Of the Civil Magistrate

  1. God, the supreme Lord and King of all the world, hath ordained civil magistrates to be under Him, over the people, for His own glory, and the public good: and, to this end, hath armed them with the power of the sword, for the defense and encouragement of them that are good, and for the punishment of evil doers.
  2. Civil magistrates may not assume to themselves the administration of the Word and sacraments; or the power of the keys of the kingdom of heaven; or, in the least, interfere in matters of faith. Yet, as nursing fathers, it is the duty of civil magistrates to protect the Church of our common Lord, without giving the preference to any denomination of Christians above the rest, in such a manner that all ecclesiastical persons whatever shall enjoy the full, free, and unquestioned liberty of discharging every part of their sacred functions, without violence or danger.

Preparation for Confession of Sin                  1 John 1:8-10

If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but for those of the whole world.
