God Is... those who Worship Him MUST

Speaker: Jim Claycomb Series: John Topic: Expository Scripture: John 4:24–26

LORD’S DAY WORSHIP

September 13, 2020 at 1:00 pm

Worship of the Triune God is our most important duty.  John 4:23-24 says that God seeks those who worship Him in spirit and truth.  As you worship today, purpose to enter fully into the praise offered by singing, in joyful giving of tithes and offerings, in prayer, and in carefully listening to God speak through the reading and preaching of His Word.  May our sovereign Lord receive glory as you actively worship Him.

Call to Worship*                                                        Psalms 96:11-13

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it!  Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth.  He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Question 108 - What are the duties required in the second commandment?

Answer - The duties required in the second commandment are, the receiving, observing, and keeping pure and entire, all such religious worship and ordinances as God hath instituted in his Word;  particularly prayer and thanksgiving in the name of Christ; the reading, preaching, and hearing of the Word; the administration and receiving of the sacraments; church government and discipline; the ministry and maintenance thereof;  religious fasting; swearing by the name of God; and vowing unto him; as also the disapproving, detesting, opposing all false worship; and, according to each one’s place and calling, removing it, and all monuments of idolatry.

Preparation for Confession of Sin                  Psalm 19:12b-14

Declare me innocent from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me!  Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.  Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Assurance of Pardon                                                Psalm 20:6-8

Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand.  Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.  They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.
